Jean Cochrane is a programmer who solves data problems to help make government faster, fairer, and more accessible. She likes bringing modern data tools to bear on thorny issues of data integrity and governance. She lives and works in Chicago, IL.

Jean is currently a senior data scientist at the Cook County Assessor's Office, where she is a technical leader working to make property tax assessments fairer and more transparent through data science and data engineering. Previously, she was a senior backend engineer at Sendwave, where she built infrastructure to help migrants send money to family and friends. Further back, Jean built civic apps with DataMade, helped manage cloud infrastructure for Azavea, was a reporting fellow at City Bureau, and made comics and graphics for the South Side Weekly. She attended the Recurse Center in Fall 2018 and she encourages you to do so, too.

Off the clock, Jean leads the indie pop band Hard Femme, volunteers on her ward's zoning advisory council, and is the captain of her queer women's softball team. She is often on her bike.
